I’m Patrick Byrne, owner and flyer at Forth Air.
Forth Air is a drone services company based in South Queensferry, just outside Edinburgh, beside the iconic Forth Bridge. We’re ideally placed for transport links to areas throughout Scotland.
Having undertaken the weekday commute to the office for over three decades I decided on a change of direction after seeing how we could do things differently during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Having been involved in software development since the 8-bit microcomputer days, I’ve been a Software Engineer and IT Architect since the early 1990’s, working freelance since 1996.
How does a long career as a Software Engineer and IT Architect prepare you for a new career utilising drones? One word – DATA!
Software Development is, at its core, all about data. The acquisition of data, the analysis and processing of data and the presentation of data.
Drones can be seen as simply a different data gathering platform. The data may be visual images, infrared images, or accurate positional information, but it’s all data.
What’s important is ensuring the data is of the highest quality from the start and it’s processed and analysed to produce what the client needs from it.
That is the simple core aim of Forth Air – Provide High Quality Data.
